Dead Snow Movie Review

With the tagline "Ein! Zwei! Die!" you might expect a Shaun of the Dead kind of horror comedy.
Though Dead Snow is rich with morbid humor it manages to balance horror and humor with tons of small and big jokes in a frightening setting revolving around a group of medical students on ski vacation who end up being met by brain hungering living dead German Nazi soldiers from WW2. Unlike the recent tendency in lower budget zombie movies, the acting is actually pretty good, and the beautiful Norwegian landscapes with snow covered mountains is an awesome canvas for the huge amounts of blood and gore which is never “over the top”.
The fact that the medical students wield weaponry and sew up their own body parts also complements the classic horror setting of being trapped in a small cabin in rural area with absolutely nowhere to escape but the vast snow plains on foot. This also indicates the tribute to classics such as Friday th 13th and Evil Dead and though the occult explanation of how the hell Nazi zombies rose from the graves in the first place is cartoonish, Dead Snow (original title “Død snø”) is a great zombie movie which I highly recommend.
The verdict: 3.5 out of 5
